My General Framework

1

Beginner

We focus on getting your coordination and dexterity as comfortable with the physical aspects of the guitar. We will do this by learning as many songs as possible. The more repertoire you go through, the quicker your technical facility will develop, allowing you to evolve to the intermediate phase. I will also introduce you to musical terms, and the entry level music theory concepts. Most importantly, making you fall in love with the instrument and making music!

2

Intermediate

The goal in the intermediate phase is to keep pushing you! The reason most intermediate guitarists plateau out is because they don’t know what to practice - and the availability of information online is far too overwhelming. I will introduce you to more technical exercises and theory by analyzing music that you love and breaking down what is happening. Fretboard navigation is also a typical goal for intermediates. Whilst we do introduce more theory here, it is ALWAYS practical and usable. Rhythm and Lead guitar are looked at on a deeper level by continuing to develop repertoire. In the intermediate phase it is crucial to set goals and timelines for yourself to keep progress consistent. This will be worked out between the two of us and implemented over the course of your lessons.

3

Advanced

In the advanced level we need to get into everything on a much deeper level. Looking at the subtle nuances of your favourite guitarists and musicians. Understanding the ‘how and why’ of songs, solos and guitar parts is key. We will be discussing more advanced concepts, however in the Advanced stages of your journey it needs to be equally practical as this is where you’ll want to develop your own sound. We will be transcribing solos and songs and going into a much higher level of detail, looking at ways to extract all of the key characteristics of your favourite guitarists.

Hear From A Few Students...

Chris H.

I've been playing for 33 years and I am still learning so much stuff from [Mike}.

Craig M.

Thank you again for all the work you put into these lessons. Man, did I find the right teacher!

Andy C.

I was really happy with how you laid out the Google Doc. Every time I practiced I went straight down the whole thing.
